Abstract

In the 1960s, Western spirituality assumed a progressive case. In recent years, however, it has taken a rightward turn toward populism and authoritarianism. In this essay, a series of three paired case studies tracks the surprising biographical connections between members of the old spiritual left and the new spiritual right and considers the impact of new media in the process.
