Abstract

Climate change and colonialism are similar in that both are systems of exploitation that disproportionately harm marginalized communities while benefiting powerful actors. Like colonialism, climate change is driven by practices that extract value while disrupting local ecologies and livelihoods. Further, the global inequalities in climate vulnerability and adaptation capacity mirror colonial hierarchies and geographies, where those least responsible for the problem bear the greatest burdens.
