A multimodal approach to shame-based trauma
Abstract
This chapter explores the complexity of trauma and the author’s experience in creating trauma-informed forensic services with a phased, multimodal approach. It emphasises the importance of understanding human development and managing physiological trauma responses to promote social safety, connections, and attachments. The approach includes Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) for shared understanding, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT) to reframe critical thinking into compassion and post-traumatic growth. A case study from secure hospital is included.
