Abstract

This chapter considers the many challenges that can be faced when setting up effective trauma-informed services for women in custody. We explore the theoretical basis and delivery of two compassion-focused, trauma-informed interventions, Ultimate Self and Compassionate Recovery and Neurological Empowerment (CRANE). Ultimate Self being an intensive intervention designed to ameliorate medium- to high-risk offending behaviour. The preliminary results of a qualitative analysis of participants’ experiences are presented. These results, as do other similar interventions, indicate encouraging outcomes and the need for further clinical research.
