Integrating the art and science of trauma-informed care
Abstract
The chapter explores the need to balance structural and relational processes when influencing culture change in forensic institutions towards greater trauma-informed praxis. It draws on group analytic and systems psychodynamic theory to explore the history of forensic institutions, before outlining what steps are needed across policy and practice. It explores conscious and unconscious processes possibly in action that prevent change and how to work with these through relationships, modelling, reciprocity, and balancing needs.
