Abstract

When working alongside people on probation, service users are often met at a particularly traumatic time – the transition from prison to community. Exploring the perspectives of people on probation regarding trauma-informed interventions, this chapter considers an aligned approach and presents tangible examples of practice. While structured psychological interventions can be effective, lived experience voices call for broader relational support. Aligning trauma-informed principles with tangible actions could more holistically support services and their users, to help them manage risk-related stressors and gain more from structured therapies. By examining surrounding systems and repairing trauma relationally, services might humanise interventions and truly be alongside people.
