Abstract

Chapter 2 examines the principle of remembrance by female figures. It observes how mortal female figures (including Helen) perform acts pertaining to types of remembrance. These types of remembrance include remembering themselves through telling stories (μῦθοι) just as male figures do in order to ensure their fame (κλέος). Female figures show that they too want to be remembered. Weaving is an important metaphor in relation to remembrance of and by female figures within the epic. Remembrance by female figures in its many facets contributes to the main homecoming (νόστος).
