Abstract

How to use guest speakers in the classroom and where to find quality guest speakers. Collaborating with various stakeholders like businesses, local organizations, and parents can be challenging. Creating an advisory council can help guide strong programming. This chapter will also highlight other ways CTE teachers can engage with their communities and parents. My students were on a shared Google Doc creating questions for our next guest speaker. As the students sat at their table, some students were googling the guest speaker’s background, while another was reading about music theory and learning. The different student groups were both crucial to ensuring comprehensive questioning for our guest speaker. This guest speaker was a private music teacher who traveled to different schools, homes, and libraries teaching music classes to a variety of age groups. Our goal was to better understand how music impacts education and how to teach music classes.
