‘Aesthetic Articulations’
Abstract
Aesthetic articulations offer a way to explore how one might engage the ineffable dimensions of human experience, fostering moral imagination and self-formation. By creating expressive forms – such as art, music, and narrative – that transcend denotational clarity, these articulations provide spaces for resonance and critique. This exploration draws on insights from the psychological humanities, philosophy, and anthropology to examine how aesthetic articulations serve as both holding spaces for complexity and vehicles for critical engagement, challenging dominant frameworks of meaning. Case studies, such as the murals of Ilyas analyzed by Stefania Pandolfo, alongside theoretical perspectives from Charles Taylor and Mark Freeman, illuminate the potential of aesthetic articulations to shape personal and collective understandings. Bridging the articulated and the ineffable, these practices invite a poetics of formation , offering new pathways for creativity, relationality, and transformative engagement with the self and the world.
