Abstract

Chapter 6 explains how trading in U.S. Treasury derivatives is executed, emphasizing the roles of futures commission merchants, brokers, and electronic platforms in ensuring access and efficient settlement. The chapter explores the central limit order book (CLOB), primarily operated via CME Globex, as the main venue for transparent and anonymous trading, alongside block trading for executing large or sensitive orders privately. Detailed descriptions cover execution strategies, the concept of slippage, and how market participants minimize market impact. Specialized order types, such as Trading at Settlement and Trading at Marker, are introduced for aligning executions with reference prices. The chapter also outlines Exchange for Physical and Exchange for Risk mechanisms, which allow risk transfer between futures and cash or swap positions, and highlights the importance of regulatory oversight and pre-execution protocols in maintaining fairness and efficiency.
