Abstract

Strategies to develop and maintain collaborative and reciprocal relationships in underrepresented communities for the purpose of conducting qualitative is a time-intensive process. In this chapter, I specifically focus on strategies used over my 20-year career to collaborate with underrepresented communities in rural and urban areas of the Southern United States. These communities include target populations of individuals who self-identified as African American; however, the information discussed in this chapter is likely applicable to other racial/ethnic populations.
