Abstract

In the introduction to the volume, editors Chemers and Santana describe their approach to the concept of monstrous utopias as a process of Roachian surrogation. They acknowledge that the relationship between “monster” and “human” isn’t and can’t be hierarchical; that monsters and humans are equal co-creations of one another; and that this recognition makes possible a vision of a better world, one in which the worst agents of repression and humiliation do not succeed.
