Abstract

Beit Theresienstadt was established on Kibbutz Givat Haim Ihud, Israel, in 1975 as a nonprofit organization in memory of the Jewish Martyrs of the Theresienstadt ghetto. The campus includes a museum, art exhibition halls, a library, an educational center, and archives holding thousands of original artifacts from the ghetto. The archive also holds an index of the 162,000 Jews from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, and other European countries, who were imprisoned in the ghetto. Days beyond Time is a unique artistic project by the artists Maya and Gal Raveh supported by the Creating Memory endeavor that deals with Holocaust remembrance. This project introduced Israeli artists, belonging to the Third Generation of descendants of Holocaust survivors, to testimonies of Holocaust survivors, and accompanied the creative process inspired by the testimonies. The project turned into an exhibition which was presented in several locations in Israel and toured Switzerland. It is now being exhibited in Germany and other places around the world. In each location, the stories, testimonies, and artworks are presented to the public. A dialog is created with diverse audiences, and social awareness and engagement with the topic of the Holocaust were increased via the exhibition.
