Creators of Memory Journey
Abstract
Midreshet (Seminary) Ein Hanatziv is an Orthodox Jewish Seminary for women located on Kibbutz Ein Hanatziv, aimed at empowering young women to become Torah Scholars and promoting influential women’s leadership in Israeli society. Their Creating Memory seminars were developed in 2022 in conjunction with the Creating Memory initiative as female students lacked a meaningful engagement with the Holocaust following the COVID-related cancellations of heritage trips to Poland. The first seminar focused on shaping the memory of the Holocaust in the State of Israel, while visiting Yad Vashem, Martef Hashoa – the Chamber of the Holocaust, and other commemorative locations. The seminars included meetings with survivors, and sessions held both in an individual and in a group setting, focusing on the creation of personal and national memory. In 2024, the Creating Memory seminar at Ein Hanatziv examined the Holocaust in the light of the current war in Gaza. The discussions focused on the tools given to the students to critically examine the process of creating Holocaust memory. The encounters with the various exhibitions, museums, workshops, people who deal with memory and memory preservation, and finally, Holocaust survivors, encourage the students to examine issues of personal, family, and national memory.
