Reflections on the Road Ahead

In writing this book, our goal was to explain the US healthcare ecosystem in a way that professionals across any of the key industry stakeholder groups could understand, to provide some insights on how these groups operate and can work together more effectively. The healthcare landscape includes an incredibly diverse range of businesses, each functioning in their own way—making it difficult to generalize about what the best future business might look like. However, we believe future innovations will come from customization rather than scale, leveraging the potential of healthcare data, creating rather than extracting value from patients, and giving due consideration to the incentives of the many players in the ecosystem.
