What every leader needs to know about literacy
Abstract
This chapter will explore the knowledge and understanding needed for every leader to be a leader of literacy (middle leaders, senior leaders, and trust leaders). It will explore the relationship between literacy and disadvantage and how literacy can help schools to mitigate some of the biggest challenges they face, including improving outcomes for pupils with SEND. It will support leaders to become research literate and literacy research advocates, including how to interpret evidence from credible sources. It will explore suggestions on how to embed literacy and learning into the curriculum and further improve teaching and learning policies that schools already have in place.
