Abstract

Collecting data is often the most laborious and time-consuming part of scientific research, especially in Biological Anthropology and Archaeology, where fieldwork might take months or years. It is, therefore, in the interests of the researcher to ensure that data are collected correctly, the first time, and that the resulting dataset is as easy to work with as possible. In this chapter, we look at how to determine the minimum number of observations required for a test, setting up a code book and data file, methods for collecting data, such as repeated measurements, and considerations for archiving data.
