Abstract

Chapter 2 begins with a case study involving moral themes in video games before moving on to a discussion on the definition of ethics and the importance of a code of ethics. The text then discusses various ethical dimensions of persuasion, which include values, ethical persuaders and unethical persuaders, lying, truth, reliability, and motives. Other key topics discussed in this chapter include the importance of ethics, ethical considerations, ethics of electronic communication—including email dialogues, electronic aggression, and both personal and professional examples of ethical electronic communication—interpersonal and political ethical responsibility, and adapting to audiences. Finally, Chapter 2 outlines a few different perspectives concerning ethics: religious, human nature, dialogical, and situational.
