Abstract

International law is an interdisciplinary discipline influenced by history, economics and political science among other fields. Studying international law through a historical lens is important for understanding the discipline and the persisting international problems. The history of international law has developed into a separate discipline today but with the problems of Eurocentrism and anachronism. This chapter gives a brief description of the history of international law as well as the history of Eurocentrism and anachronism as two issues in the discipline and solutions to tackle them so that diverse histories of international law are narrated. The chapter ends with an outline of the book.
