The Multidimensional Role of Language in Embracing Own Identities
Abstract
Neo-cosmopolitanism allows migrants to dynamically patchwork their identities to accommodate their past experiences. Looking at belonging through this lens, the author focuses on the role of language in reflecting who we are. By demonstrating the role language input and output plays in my journey, the author invites the reader to consider elements of their own identity and engage with their linguistic repertoires. My reflections also focus on the importance of establishing a transnational network to facilitate one’s sense of belonging. A language-based framework could help transcultural migrants navigate the complex nature of their identities.
