UK for Work, Czechia for Living?
Abstract
A conversation between two Czech friends and researchers – legal scholar Barbara Havelková and anthropologist Zuzana Hrdličková – about their 15+ years of living in the UK and navigating the opportunities provided by British academia and the professional sector, and the barriers in their home country to pursue their research interests. During the time, they have both undergone a process of intensive internal identity-interrogation. Both miss aspects of Czechia, but also enjoy some qualities of the UK. Especially post-Brexit, they have both questioned where home is. Finally, they both settled on a status of multi-sited presence in the UK and in Czechia.
