Don't Ask Me, Why I Won't Come Back
Abstract
This piece blends the personal with the academic, in a reflection on how our identities are made, transformed, questioned, unmade, built and remade in the process(es) of migration and home-finding. It considers how a ‘home’ can be found or made not just in the tangible space of a new country, but also in the affordances that an interplay of identities and positionality opens. In the candid consideration of the trajectory of her own growth through being ‘home and back again’, and the personal and professional development made possible by the change in reference points of her journey, Lula considers the theme of home from the vantage point of belonging.
