Abstract

This chapter analyses the marketing strategies of major cities across the European Union (EU), focusing specifically on the methods used to integrate ecological marketing into strategic urban development. Based on a qualitative content analysis of strategic documents from major EU cities, this research examines the goals of these initiatives, which consistently emphasise the sustainable city paradigm. The discussion explores key implementation challenges, including the necessity for a holistic and segmented approach to complex urban issues and the critical importance of citizen participation and ownership for long-term success. To illustrate best practices, this chapter provides detailed case studies of successful strategies, offering valuable insights into their effectiveness and potential for replication across the EU.
