Difficulty in therapy
Abstract
Communication between the psychotic patient and the analyst is challenging because they operate using two different languages. The analyst uses a symbolic language that conveys emotional meanings, whereas the patient can only express themselves through a concrete and sensory language. For this reason, the analyst must possess a deep understanding of the morbid process to overcome the continuous series of misleading resistances driven by the influence of the psychotic part of the patient’s personality.
