Psychic retreat
Abstract
Psychic withdrawal corresponds to a psychopathological structure formed in childhood by certain children who retreat into a world of sensory fantasies. This internal world serves to separate them from reality and from emotional dependence on adults. Over time, this dissociated world can develop the psychotic part of the personality and lead to the manifestation of overt psychotic illness.
