Abstract

Museum activities, which involve recognising a broad range of local heritage values, may create various economic and social benefits. Recognising overtourism and problems associated with it as an important contemporary challenge for many tourist destinations, this chapter looks at the role museums can play in mitigating negative effects of tourism. Two Polish museums based in small towns attracting significant numbers of tourists are used as case studies.
