Experiencing the Consonant Symbols
Abstract
In this module, Exploring Consonant Symbols , readers are shown the phonetic symbols which populate the International Phonetic Alphabet Pulmonic Consonant charts. After having explored these charts in their empty versions in Module Six , and having explored the concept of what a phonetic symbol represents in Module Nine , readers are finally given the shorthand of phonetics symbols to describe speech actions. Readers are led through a series of exercises using this new tool. The module culminates in readers being asked to create an initial phonetic transcription of the consonant sounds in the secret language sample introduced in the Interlude.
