Experiencing Articulators
Abstract
Module Two , Experiencing Articulators , introduces gurning, a serious approach to making funny faces, and one way in which Knight-Thompson Speechwork stretches and strengthens the muscles of the face. This module explains the muscles of the vocal tract used in shaping sound. Through a series of articulator isolations for the various parts of the vocal tract, readers learn to decouple articulatory gestures from one another in order to later recouple them for particular speech patterns of the reader’s choosing. Jaw, velum, tongue, and lip isolations are explored. The module culminates in an assignment to create a choreographed gurn dance using the articulator isolations
