Abstract

This aim of this introductory chapter is to present the ambitions and the structure of the volume as a whole. It delves into the mismatch between science and governance, highlighting that blockchain is a well-developed technology that has been piloted in many instances for the purposes of public governance projects; and despite these successful pilots, blockchain has not been considered for adoption in many use cases where it would be suitable. The introductory chapter then lays out some of the use cases as part of the exposition of the volume’s structure, identifying the logic of each chapter’s incorporation and placement, along with important elements that constitute the editorial vision for the volume as a whole.
