Executive function in dementia
Abstract
This chapter considers the relationships between attention and executive function, and how the latter is affected in dementia. This begins by looking at how executive function is incorporated into one of the most influential models of attention, before moving onto some models which focus directly on executive function, including the distinction between ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ models. How executive function is assessed clinically by neuropsychologists is reviewed, as well as some of the behavioural hallmarks of executive difficulties.
