Abstract

The final chapter outlines the necessity of trust in collaboration and cooperation. It argues that acquiring trust is an experiential process, often precipitated by an aspiration or assumption but always confirmed by what happens or is thought to have happened. The chapter posits that trust comes in degrees and with provisos, manifesting in free improvisation mostly as a threshold rather than as a simple on-off switch. The chapter argues that trust is both an action and a predisposition. The chapter proposes that trust is related to empowerment. Finally, the chapter identifies three dynamic, intertwined and critical threads that are essential for trust in free improvisation: authenticity, collaboration and empowerment.
