Abstract

This chapter critically examines the inclusivity, educational access, and existing provisions for transgender students in India. The evaluation draws on Right to Information (RTI) responses received from apex educational bodies, such as the University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education, as well as major central universities. School and elementary education are analyzed using available official databases and public documents. Highlighting data inconsistencies, informational inequities, limited affirmative actions, lack of scholarship provisions and infrastructural barriers, the chapter maps the societal and structural barriers that restrict transgender persons’ access to education. It also discusses the inclusionary provisions of NEP 2020, along with provisions by national boards of education and evaluating enrollment percentages at school and higher education levels to assess both opportunities and persisting barriers.
