Abstract

This chapter explores the implementation of social security schemes for transgender persons in India, emphasizing food security, employment, livelihood support, housing, and healthcare. It critically assesses access levels, pointing out systemic gaps and ongoing challenges that marginalize the community. Beyond welfare programs, the chapter reviews legal rights and protections available to transgender persons, analyzing key frameworks such as the Bhartiya Nyay Samhita, Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and prison manuals to evaluate their inclusion in legal discourse. The chapter highlights both the potential and limitations of existing provisions.
