Abstract

This chapter is concerned with plastics as an aesthetic material, and with plasticity as that which is performed through this aesthetic material. Through plasticity, plastics display their mouldable and transformational quality, taking shape in different states of matter and forms – to become a household item, a toy, or packaging material. However, the performativity of plastics considered here is less an effect of its material properties, but rather of worldmaking practices at work in plastics.
