Abstract

In recent years, Gala Porras-Kim has been developing a practice that understands museums as reservoirs of materials which, when worked through materially and conceptually, grant objects a renewed life—recovering their agency and reactivating layers of functionality neutralized by the institution. Through the exploration of three of her projects— Leaving the Institution through Cremation Is Easier than as a Result of a Deaccession Policy (2021), Precipitations for an Arid Landscape (2021), and Mould Extraction (2022–ongoing)—we will approach her work as that of a “remediator”, engaging in a form of Institutional Critique that unfolds through virtualities.
