The Legislative Branch
Abstract
The Constitution puts Congress at the center of the American political game. The Framers’ experience with the king of England and his autocratic governors left them suspicious of a strong executive. As a result, the Constitution begins with Article I giving detailed powers and duties to Congress; Article II provides far fewer to the president.
