Abstract

The British Broadcasting Corporations (BBC) Sports Personality of the Year award (SPOTY) is a prestigious trophy presented annually to a sportsperson who the public has deemed to have achieved the most that year. This chapter examines the interplay between a range of cultural identity markers evidencing the fuzzy frontiers of Britishness and looks at how national identities intersect with other key identity markers such as race and gender.
