Impact of Climate Change on Tourism in World Heritage Sites
Abstract
This chapter comments on the impact that climate change may have on two world heritage natural areas that lie adjacent to a major Australian tourism destination. The chapter suggests a number of strategies that destinations may adopt to prepare for the changes that may occur as the impact of climate change accelerates. In particular, the chapter illustrates the importance of the scientific community working closely with the tourism community to reduce impacts at a local level and to ensure that the tourism industry understands the potential impacts of climate change on natural areas and develops strategies to cope with these changes.
