My Father—The Life of His Mind
Abstract
About eight years of my father&s;s life were spent in British jails. When a free man, his activity was many-splendoured. He had no time to spare even for a little rest. His profession as a lawyer kept him extremely busy. But he did not confine himself to his career as a barrister. As a parliamentarian, he was acclaimed as one of the greatest our country has produced. As a politician, his mission was the freedom of the country and service to the people. His fearless and dauntless spirit, his suffering and sacrifice and, above all, his greatness of heart endeared him to all who came in touch with him. In the field of journalism also, he played an important role. He was at the helm of affairs in Deshbandhu Das&s;s paper, Forward, afterwards renamed Liberty . Later in life, he started the paper Nation, which was truly the voice of the people.
