Mentoring with Love
Abstract
This chapter introduces Mentoring with Love , a relational and neurodevelopmentally informed framework for supporting adult learning, healing, and professional growth through emotionally attuned mentorship. Drawing from attachment theory, developmental neuroscience, and trauma-informed practice, this chapter presents two original models, the Love Model and the Playful Love Mindset , designed to support the creation of safe, inclusive, and transformative mentoring relationships. The Love Model identifies five interrelated components: trust, vulnerability, risk, validation, and authenticity. Together, these elements form a dynamic relational cycle known as the Love Loop. This model highlights the role of the parasympathetic nervous system in fostering safety and openness, while addressing how early experiences of fear and disconnection can shape internal models of self and others. The Playful Love Mindset complements this by emphasizing curiosity, creativity, and emotional presence, supporting co-regulation, resilience, and authentic expression. This chapter offers theoretical grounding, practical strategies, and implications for how mentoring can support the repair of early relational patterns, nurture the inner child, and promote inclusive, emotionally sustainable systems of professional learning.
