Abstract

This chapter examines the interplay between mentorship and advocacy within early childhood education in Ontario, highlighting the significant role of the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO). It critically analyzes traditional mentorship models, which often emphasize individualized, hierarchical relationships, and argues for a reconceptualization grounded in feminist ethics of care. By framing advocacy as a collective and transformative practice, the authors advocate for an inclusive approach that recognizes the complexities of early childhood educators’ experiences. The discussion emphasizes the urgent need for mentorship that not only supports personal development but also fosters a collaborative advocacy culture that challenges systemic barriers. Through shared narratives and reflections, this chapter explores the limits and possibilities of mentorship within the context of early childhood advocacy, ultimately proposing a vision of caring activism that nurtures the growth of educators while promoting positive change for children, families, and communities.
