Abstract

In “Architecting Dissent by Design,” Dr Forst reframes dissent as a leadership design principle rather than a disruption to be managed. She situates her argument in today's volatile and complex world, where traditional hierarchies and speed-driven decisions often suppress the very disagreement organizations need to adapt. Drawing on empirical research and real cases, she shows that dissent, when intentionally structured through practices like pre-mortems, stakeholder dialogues, and transparent forums, enhances decision quality, innovation, and resilience. The chapter traces how culture, leader behavior, psychological safety, and power dynamics influence whether dissent is voiced and heard. Dr Forst demonstrates that leaders who embed dissent into their systems—through facilitation, role clarity, and decision architecture—transform conflict into learning and foresight. Her contribution lies in offering a pragmatic blueprint for leaders to move beyond “open door” gestures and design organizations where questioning, disagreement, and diverse thinking become the foundation of adaptive intelligence.
