Abstract

This chapter covers how risk becomes a powerful tool for alignment, decision-making, and shared understanding when it’s communicated clearly. It introduces the concept of commander’s intent—communicating purpose over prescription—to equip teams for fast, informed decision-making under pressure. The chapter explores how identifying and owning risk can shift priorities, empower proactive behaviors, and clarify who must act when things change. Rather than treating risk as a checklist item, it reframes it as a tool for increased focus.
