Abstract

This chapter covers the modern retelling of the classic Stone Soup fable, adapted to illustrate one of the core dynamics of Innovation Strategy. It tells the story of two stranded travelers who initiate collaboration in a reluctant village—mirroring how innovation projects must sometimes break a deadlock in participation and confidence. Through small contributions and shared purpose, the villagers are able to successfully get unstuck. The chapter uses this story to introduce the principle of aligned self-interest: when individuals see clear personal value in a shared goal, coordination emerges. This foundational metaphor sets the stage for building strategic alignment in uncertain environments, one of the core aspects of Innovation Strategy.
