Abstract

The postscript considers how media-revolutions have disturbed the political forcefield throughout history. It starts with the revolution of the printing press in the seventeenth-century Dutch Republic, with its republican potential being smothered through the use of media by quasi-royal powers. It then takes this disturbance of the political forcefield to the contemporary use of memes and the fact that media platforms are owned by quasi-political figures. These figures aim to replace jurisdiction as a theatrically defined and independent tool tasked to safeguard justice, with jurisdiction becoming an arena in which cases are fought out spectacularly. If we desire to counter this, a simple defense of jurisdiction’s theatrical potential will not suffice. If the spectacular power of unitarians is to be stopped, a revolution is needed.
