What is ‘Locus of Control'?
Abstract
This chapter explains the concept of locus of control and its relevance to resilience. It introduces the locus of control continuum and encourages readers to raise their self-awareness of their own locus of control style. The chapter explores the consequences of an external locus of control, where people feel powerless and reactive, compared with an internal locus of control, which fosters healthier, more resilient responses. Practical exercises help readers identify their own locus of control style and develop a stronger internal locus of control. By increasing awareness and applying these insights, readers learn to enhance their resilience, take ownership of their responses, and strengthen their sense of agency in both professional and personal life.
