Introduction
Abstract
I am proud to call myself a social worker. That may be unsurprising as I chose to enter this profession, attended university, took out obscene loans, and worked hard in this wonderful but intense profession for four years. However, there are times when, it saddens me to refer to myself as such. Not because of the familiar tropes around being a ‘child-snatcher’, or ineffectual cardigan wearing ‘do-gooder’ (although I do love a good cardigan). This is in connection with a disparity between what I thought a social worker does; campaigning for social justice, and… well, the reality.
