Seriality and the Media
Abstract
“Mediamorphosis” continuously transforms both sensory perception and narrative forms, as well as collective imaginaries. Therefore, the historical and theoretical study of seriality must be carried out from a mediological perspective. This is even more evident today, in the rapid change triggered by the network society, social networks, the globalised communication industry and a micro- and auto-serialisation in the virtualisation of everyday life. However, seriality is not a recent phenomenon, but since its origins a structural fact of culture, where serial narrative “machines” play a fundamental social role. By introducing this collective work, the contribute tries to identify the main research paths to address such a complex phenomenon for the first time in its entire historical arc.
