Abstract

This chapter provides tactical advice for conducting a climate or sustainability job search. It outlines specific, actionable steps for getting started: narrowing one’s focus, extensively reading industry news and job descriptions, optimizing LinkedIn profiles, building a target list of companies, joining relevant climate/sustainability and alumni networks, attending conferences, and setting up job search agents. It also provides guidance for networking and gives specific tips and examples for how to conduct great coffee chats and informational interviews. Finally, it offers guidance on how to position yourself as a strong candidate by embracing your past experiences, focusing on transferable skills, understanding that passion alone is not a differentiator, and demonstrating commitment through action.
