Mapping the Self
Abstract
This chapter breaks down each layer of identity—existential, social, cognitive, emotional, and primal—tracing how suicidality emerges when these layers destabilize. More than just concepts, these layers translate into clinical entry points, showing how to recognize, assess, and intervene at different levels of suicidal experience. From existential crises to relational disconnection, from cognitive collapse to emotional overwhelm, this chapter provides a structured way to navigate suicidality—not just as a risk, but as a crisis of self that can be understood and reconstructed.
